It is a sandbox game where the player must survive as long as possible against the hordes of zombies that wander the landscape. There is no set goal or ending, and it is up to the player to decide how they want to play the game.

In the towns of Muldraugh and West Point, survivors must loot houses, build defences and do their utmost to delay their inevitable death day by day. Players can take on the role of one of several pre-made survivors or create their own, each with their own skillsets, traits and history. There are over 50 different skills to level up, hundreds of items to scavenge and craft, and dynamic town populations where different characters come and go.
Death is permanent, meaning every mistake can be fatal. Do you hide from the undead or engage them head on? Search for survivors or strike out alone? The decisions you make shape the game world around you.
