The story follows archaeologist-adventurer Lara Croft as she embarks on a quest to recover four artifacts that hold the power to control time.

Tomb Raider 3 game’s levels are set across four continents—South America, Europe, Africa and Asia—and Lara Croft visits a number of real-world locations such as the Nevada Desert, London’s Natural History Museum and the Great Wall of China. Gameplay consists of platforming and puzzle elements interspersed with combat encounters against enemies such as dinosaurs, robots and mutated humans.

Development began shortly after the release of Tomb Raider II in 1997. The team opted to create a more globetrotting storyline with locations based on real-world places rather than make another sequel set in Egypt like its immediate predecessor.
